Bob Hood has
been with
Yarnbury since
1993. During his
playing days he
made over 300
appearance for a
number of
Yorkshire teams
including
Roundhay,
Headingley,
Bradford,
Bradford and
Bingley playing
at flanker. He
made the
Yorkshire Colts
squad in 1972-3
and played for
England
Colleges. He was
also a trialist
for the England
Under-23 side.
"But there were
some very good
players around
at that time,
such as Peter
Winterbottom" he
recalled, "and
it was hard to
break into the
side."
During the
British Lions
tour of 1993, he
went out to New
Zealand on a
research
mission,
catching 14
flights in as
many days. He
was also an
observer at the
Lion's training
camps. "Geoff
Cooke, the
England manager,
asked me then
what I had
learned about
the game out
there, and I
told him one
thing:
intensity. At
all levels, the
players are so
intense."
